About Bernie
Melbourne born Bernie Walsh graduated from RMIT University with a diploma of Arts in Industrial Design he then worked as a designer in the transport industry designing cars trucks trains and yachts. His expertise in both design and illustration see him in continuous demand not only in the transport industry but in the art world, his sellout solo exhibitions led to his series of beach art prints selling in over 40 countries
Bernie's passion for illustration shows a wonderful sense of colour and eye for detail and extending beyond the borders has made his work so distinctive it is immediately recognisable.
Being a designer he is always looking to explore new techniques which have led him to develop his new look 3D paintings and digital art.

Bernie Walsh's Unique Painting Style
Bernie has developed his own very unique style. I have always loved to sketch with a pencil rather than using the traditional oils and water colours and often found in my early days that a quick pencil sketch looked better with more life and movement than the painstakingly finished painting. From an early age I have always been fascinated by the cleanness and exactness of airbrush illustrations but found them very time consuming. So I decided to experiment with combining the two techniques. I use the airbrush to apply the background colour then use coloured pencils to freely sketch over the top. This enables me to finish my work with the sketch rather than starting with one
Being a designer Bernie very carefully lays out his subject matter so it appears well balanced and so nothing dominates the finished work. He then selects what extends from the borders and by how much to create a three-dimensional effect which has become almost his trademark.

Most people will know Bernie's work in numerous open and limited print form, which were created to satisfy the enormous demand for his art, as at the time he was not a full time artist. His series of prints have sold in over 40 countries and his original paintings are sort after both here in Australia and overseas.
Now after a four year break from painting Bernie has returned to painting with a new palette of vibrant colours for his familiar seascapes along with the time to be able to experiment more with his art.This has led him to explore digital technology,he now uses the latest latest digital sketching and design programs to creat his art and concept design.
All through Bernie's career he has been involved with teaching new technology by lecturing at universitys and presenting design workshops at high schools and primary schools

Automotive illustration
Bernie Walsh is among the most published car artists in Australia. His work has been appearing in calendars, magazines, brochures and newspapers since the early 1990s and, during that time, he has developed a distinctive style that creates something more than a mere car art.
Although he is able to turn his hand to just about any subject, including unique seascapes and landscape drawings, his background in the automotive industry has been a major influence.
It has also directed the medium within which he has chosen to work namely the meticulous application of airbrush and colour pencil sketching to create dynamic, crisp and beautifully proportioned forms.
Bernie's car art are the expression of a deep, intuitive understanding of technical shapes. It is executed in a way that gives an immediate feeling of light, colour and movement.
He is undoubtedly without peer when it comes to understanding the complex mix of shapes and curves that make up a motor vehicle and has the keen awareness of proportion and perspectives necessary in his previous occupation as an automotive industry stylist.
